This project was created with the intention to show off Norwich and market our tourism to the world. It's designed for those looking to visit places in England, perhaps the quieter more hidden gems. Our concept developed into an animated paper plane, thrown by one character, to call out and fly through the city to meet the second character, who then follows the plan back up to the first character. it's got a cute feel in mind and designed to show how friendly Norwich is, something i think we achieved well.

Initial Ideas

When given the breif we had to think about many things, our intrests, what we enjoy & what is accessable to us. Each idea listed here was drafted up in a way to give it the biggest possible chance at success, and after this proccess we decided to go for the Visit Norwich advert concept.

Expanding Ideas

Once deciding on the visit norwich concept we had to fully immerse ourself into the idea to decide how it would take shape. We did this in two ways, with a further mind map & with a moodboard, both pictured below.

Test Shots

In our project we were trying a lot of new and challenging effects, so there was a massive push to attempt the ideas we had before we got too ahead of ourselves and planned out a full shoot. At the start of January we took a paper airplane to the cathedral, and just attempted throwing it around, to see how the could interact with a shot, and we learned a lot.

This process was inevitably what led us to animate the plane, instead of have it physically in camera.

The animations for this project were completed by Wren, they're fairly begginer level but the animation turned out great! Here's a timelapse of how it was created.

Identifying & Controlling Risk

In any project there is always an element of risk. Some shots & parts of a project will be much higher risk than others, so a very good practice is to assess that risk, so you can document any major risks that require the project being reformed, or others you can mitigate or plan for.

As you can see, we took many things into account such as our wellbeing when being in situations on the roads, both as pedestrians & passengers. Risk in our locations is also taken into account within our location recce's such as on the viewpoint where there is a fairly steep hill, which as long as we retain awareness we should be safe from.

Call Sheets & Production Schedules

Planning out a project is an essential way to ensure its completed in a short amount of time without procrastination or risk of missing deadlines. It becomes even more important when you involve other members of production team & talent appearing on screen.

We used both GANTT charts for the overall project & call sheets on shooting days.

Each stage of shooting is colour coded, and allotted a week of time. There is a small corssover as when the animation was still being finalised, the rest of the video was complete and we were preparing the exhibition and evaluating on our work. We stuck more or less to this GANTT chart, through changing our idea as a result of experimenting our ideas (as seen with the test shots of our paper plane idea)
